A dealer needs to be chosen in order for game play to get underway. Every player gets one card drawn for them from the shuffled deck. The person who now has the lowest card takes over as dealer.

After shuffling the cards, the dealer starts dealing cards to the players in a clockwise direction. If there are two players playing, then each player will be given 10 cards. When there are three or four players, each player receives seven cards. When there are five or six players, each player receives six cards. The stock is formed by placing the remaining cards with their backs facing down in the middle of the group. The card that was face down on the stock is turned over so that it is now face up, and it is put next to the stock to begin forming the discard pile.

 

How to Perform

The game starts with the player who is immediately to the left of the dealer. At the beginning of each player's turn, they are required to choose one card from either the stock pile or the discard pile. In the event that the stock pile runs out of cards at any time during the game, the discard pile is reshuffled to create a new stock pile. The card that was on top of the new supply pile when it was discarded moves to the bottom of the discard pile. The objective of the game is to get rid of all of your cards in the shortest amount of time feasible. This may be accomplished in three different ways: Combining, laying off, or discarding in order of preference

 

Melding

Either three or more of a kind, or three or more of a run, is required for a player to meld. A run consists of three or more cards in ascending or descending sequence of the same suit. When a player melds their cards, they must place them face up on the table. You can only combine once every turn, and it's optional.

 

Reducing Staff

It is possible to eliminate cards by expanding on existing melds. Example: if a player has already melded three Kings and the active player also holds the fourth King, the active player can meld the fourth King onto the existing three-King meld to complete the set. Also, if the 2, 3, and 4 of clubs form a meld and the person in play also holds the Ace of clubs, the Ace can be placed before the 2 to complete the run. There is no maximum number of layoffs and the option to layoff is always available.

 

Discarding

You are required to pick one card to add to the pile of discards at the conclusion of each of your turns.

 

Scoring

When one player gets rid of all of their cards, the game is over, and the other players must pause and tally up their scores depending on the cards they still have in their hands. The value of the card is used to determine how many points are awarded; an ace is worth one point, while a face card is worth ten points. The player who was able to get rid of all of their cards before their opponent wins the points that are totalled up.
